As the board of SIB-Amsterdam | DUNSA, we would like to give our members the opportunity to get to know the United Natons. The Human Rights Council is located, just like many other big UN-organisations, such as UNHCR, UNCTAD, WTO, WHO and UN Women. A lot of our members are interested in diplomacy and the different aspects of the United Nations. By talking to Dutch and UN-diplomats, you will be able to learn more about the workfield.
In the week of April 16, a big Ecommerce conference will take place in Geneva. This means that ministers from all over the world come to Geneva to talk about development cooperation, trade and the digitalisation of this.
This is being organised by the UNCTAD. The UNCTAD is very enthusiastic to welcome students during this conference. For our members, there is a possibility to ask a question to a minister during one of the high-level panels on Ecommerce. Besides that, the UNCTAD will organise a session, for our members only, and will invite several speakers, who will ask our students for input on the role of students in development cooperation and trade.
Also, a meeting with the Dutch ambassador to the UN is on the programme, just like a meeting with other diplomats who work for the Dutch mission to the UN. Think of the Human Rights department, the disarmament mission and the trade department. Besides that, we will meet diplomats who work at UNHCR
and UN Women.
To experience as much as possible of this conference, we will fly to Geneva on April 16 in the evening. We will stay in the Geneva Hostel. Transport and breakfast are included. On Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 April, we will have a full programme in Geneva with several activities, as you have read above. Wednesday evening, we will fly back to Amsterdam. In this way, you only have to miss two days at university, but you will be able to experience as much as possible of the conference.
